About Katy

Sitting west of Houston in the state of Texas, Katy is within the "Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land" metropolitan area with about 14,102 people running around its streets, bunkering down in coworking venues getting their stuff done or sipping espresso in cafes. Dating back to the mid 1890s when it was a railroad town, Katy sits in a prairie that is the perfect location for rice farming. Today, it's a highly urbanized sprawl in the area known as "Greater Katy" with an historic town square, plenty of shopping options and the Katy Independent School District spewing out tech savvy youth. If you want to check out a myriad of trains, there is the Katy Heritage Society Railroad Museum to poke your nose around or for those with an arty bent there is the Contemporary Art Museum Fort Bend to excite you. If you wish to be in the outdoors, the leafy Mary Jo Peckham Park has a very fishy lake to investigate.

The area's largest employer is BP America and there are plenty of other operations under the BP flag including engineering and business support companies as well. Amazon has built a 1 million sq ft distribution center in the region and retail opportunities are in abundance. Katy, as with the rest of Texas, is getting into new technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology and machine learning. Business software companies are reaping the benefit of capital funding and its early-stage ecosystem is continuing to develop with accelerators such as Sputnix ATX.

With many companies moving to the Texas area, this tech savvy state has plenty of coworking venues to choose from when you need to get some work done.
