About Chonburi
Chonburi is the land of buffalo racing, zip-lining through lush rainforest, traversing streets choked with red, brown and pink pickups (if you don't wish to scurry around on a motorbike like a local). It is the capital of the province by the same name sitting in the Mueang Chonburi District of Thailand. Located about 100km southeast of Bangkok on the coastline of the Gulf of Thailand, the city's name means "city of water". This is a tourist playground famous for its sea views and gorgeous beaches. Thailand overflows with wandering nomads with laptops on their backs due to the tropical climate and low-cost of living. Its main hub for aspiring startups is Chiang Mai, but other towns are now opening coworking doors to cater not just to the travelers but also to the locals who have aspirations of being tech wizards.
This is where you can gorge yourself silly for a pittance on aromatic Thai cuisine, whether it be in rustic beach huts with your feet in the sand, sitting on kid's plastic furniture at your favourite "curb de cuisine" (aka street food) or being posh in a 5-star restaurant. It is a haven for beach lovers where you can splash around in crystal clear water, look for Nemo wearing a snorkel or glide over the water in a kayak. Sun worshippers strip down to practically nothing (which actually is offensive to the locals) and the meek meander around silent temples and pagodas. You can chat to the wild monkeys at Bang Saen Beach or fish at the beach of Laem Thaen. The seaside fishing village of Ang Sila is worth investigating and the walking street of Bangsaen Chonburi comes alive when the night market is in full swing.
Chonburi is not a tech hub such as Bangkok or Chiang Mai, but it does have its own intrepid tech savvy locals, apart from hordes of tech lingerers looking for somewhere to work from. The Thais are renowned for working almost exclusively from laptops and other portable devices, so the coworking concept is the perfect fit. Coworking spaces also give the support to entrepreneurial individuals who wish to collaborate and mingle with likeminded souls.
