About Basingstoke
A town in southern England, Basingstoke is snuggled into a valley at the source of the River Loddon in the county of Hampshire only 48km northeast of Southampton and 77km from London with a population of 113,776. Nicknamed "Doughnut City or "Roundabout City" due to the large number of roundabouts within its midst, it's an old market town that developed rapidly after World War II to accommodate the London "overspill". People have been meandering around this region since the Neolithic times and the town was first mentioned in 1086 as a weekly market village. During the 18th and 19th Centuries brewing became one of its prime industries and since the later half of the 20th Century Basingstoke has become an economic hub housing the UK headquarters of numerous companies including IT, telecommunications, insurance and electronics. Now the city has numerous coworking venues for its tech savvy locals who think outside of the box to gather and collaborate in.
The startup scene in the United Kingdom is said to be one of the fastest growing in the whole of Europe according to figures over the last 5 years when there has been 392,627 new tech startups launched in the country. The most growth showed up in the niche sectors of Internet, fintech and software. The UK has an attractive environment for tech businesses in that it offers great foundations and ecosystems for innovative minds to get their ideas off the ground.
Coworking is but one more step in supporting the adventurous souls into creating startups or merely a place to get their stuff done before heading off to the pub for a pint.
