About Osijek
Home to the Pannonian Challenge, the biggest extreme sport and music festival in the region, this is the town for the adrenalin junkies who may also be digital nomads to hang out in. It is also where the famous UFO (Urban Fest Osijek) Rock music festival is held in June each year within the walls of the old fortress of Tydra. From beer festivals to theater or folk dancing events, Osijek likes to party.
The economic and cultural center of the region of Slavonia, the city of Osijek sits on the bank of the Drava River, upstream from where it melts into the Danube. It is easy to get to, as it is the major rail and road hub for the whole of eastern Croatia. This is where you can put on your walking shoes and take off at a sprint when you need to go uphill.
Museum buffs can get excited to go into the Museum of Slavonia where you can gawk at artifacts dating back to the Roman times, the Museum of Archeology shows off artifacts from the Celts as well as the Romans and there is the Gallery of Fine Arts to complete the history lesson. The Antiques Market is for the shopaholic nomad that likes to fill up their home, wherever it is, with assorted items from around the world. If you need a bit of divine intervention, you should head to the Franciscan monastery of St Cross where a friendly monk will show you not only the beautiful church but their library as well. You can take a stroll along the promenade on the banks of the Drava River and stop off for some people watching and espresso sipping at one of the many cafes.
When you need a bit of exercise from eating too many bureks (cheese pastry), grab a bicycle and explore the area's green forests by taking a ride to the beautiful village of Bilje.
