An ancient city within the Hubei province of China, Wuhan’s history can be traced back as far as 1500 BC. Wuhan has been at the centre of some pivotal moments in Chinese history, including the Battle of the Red Cliffs in 208 AD and the Wuchang Uprising of 1911, which led to the eventual downfall of the Qing dynasty and later the establishment of the Republic of China. More recently, Wuhan has come to serve as a major transport hub with dozens of highways and railroads passing through the city and connecting to other major cities, earning Wuhan the nickname the “Chicago of China.”
Since 2004, Wuhan has been central to the Rise of Central China Plan — a government scheme which aims to develop new hubs of advanced manufacturing. This scheme has attracted investment from all over the world, with international companies such as Renault and PSA Group establishing bases in Wuhan.
Such economic developments have generated a new wave of hybrid workspaces and flex offices that cater to the dynamic needs of the modern worker. The recent trend of space-as-a-service has gained considerable traction in Wuhan, with many businesses opting for the SPaaS model rather than traditional office environments. Coworking spaces in Wuhan have never been more plentiful and accessible, making the city the perfect host for major industries and individual freelancers alike.
