-Once an agricultural domain, Chilliwack is changing into an urban landscape. Sitting in the Fraser Valley that is said to be "at once flat and mountainous", the city has a slogan of being "The Great Outside". If you are into catching your dinner (think fishing line), swimming or boating, you have the Fraser, Vedder and Chilliwack Rivers to play on, whilst the intrepid hiker or biker has mountains to frolic on, this is a town for you. It is where the infamous train robber, Bill Miner, upon his release from San Quentin Prison in 1904 deigned to live in, under the alias of "George Edwards".
Sitting 102 km from Vancouver, the town is considered to be "the Green Heart of the Fraser Valley", with its abundance of dairy farms, apiaries and berry farms to invade if you want to smell some fresh air and gawk at the locals in their denim overalls with grass between their teeth. You can grab a raft and head to the river for a bit of strenuous water fun down wild frothy river waters whilst you freeze your butt, then head to the local J Beethoven's Pizza for a quick fix of artery clogging cuisine. The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is where you need your binoculars to spy on some feathered creatures, or you can go to "The Book Man" shop to touch and smell the real paper of a book. When the crushing need for caffeine becomes too much, there is the somewhat hippy Yellow Deli to run into. If beer is more your choice of poison, then head to the Old Yale Brewery and sample some of the local brew.
