Recent Reviews in Manresa
Manresa is a place of pilgrimage for many Catholics, as Saint Ignatius of Loyola stopped in this town to pray on his way back from Montserrat in the year 1522. He actually spent a year in solitude in a cave reading, which led to the formulation of his Spiritual Exercises. Sitting about 65km northeast of Barcelona, it is an industrial town in the center of Catalonia. A hodge podge of old and new buildings, Manresa now has coworking venues to cater to its innovative youth and wandering nomads with laptops on their backs.
The draw card for the town is its low cost of living, its strong Catalan culture and the fact that lush vineyards surround the city. It's only a 50-minute drive to Barcelona or an 80-minute train ride, but you will have to brush up on your Catalan to make yourself understood on a daily basis. All of the traditional houses sit around the basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu and this is where you will find the fun happening from bars dishing up tapas with incredible wines or restaurants serving local dishes.
A town that rose from the rubble after being destroyed by retreating French troops during the Napoleonic invasion, Manresans's historical grit has been handed down to its intrepid and inventive tech savvy youth. Coworking spaces are filling the void for those over working from the local cafe and being tempted to scoff too much vino. Now there is an alternative space to hang out, get their stuff done and to rub shoulders with likeminded souls.
