About Alberobello

A UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its iconic "trulli" houses that are whitewashed stone huts with conical roofs, Alberobello sits in the hilltop district of Rione Monti in Italy's southern Apuliga region. This is a photographer's dream destination as the houses and the scenery are literally mind blowing, if you don't mind other bodies in your photos. Made from local limestone and shaped like beehives, there are hundreds of them sitting on the hills in clusters. Truly a tourist mecca, during the months between May and October you will have to contend with busloads of people wanting to invade the trulli shops, drink in the bars and gawk in the houses. Coworking has arrived in Alberobello, not in a trulli, but in the heart of the modern town center, Rione Monti.

There are plenty of kitsch keepsakes up for grabs and local products to buy for the shopaholics. The streets are typical of any small Italian village on a hillside that will give your leg muscles a good workout walking up and down, as well as sideways. There are a couple of museums to poke your nose into and plenty of tiny bars to invade where you can sample local wines. This is a town that appears to have been built for gnomes, where old men gossip in groups whilst sitting on street benches and the main town square, Piazza del Popolo is the de rigueur spot for sipping espresso or gulping wine as the tourist world trundles past you.

Italians have a creative culture in their blood, from food to fashion, design to wine and there are plenty of innovative tech savvy souls lingering over espressos. Alberobello is definitely not a tech hub, but it does have its' locals who have no desire to move to a congested big city of proper boring shaped houses. Coworking venues are giving them the space to mingle, connect and collaborate in one of the most eclectic Italian cities that you will ever walk through.
