Singapore, the jewel in the crown of Asia's startup world. Thanks to government support and a blossoming VC scene, there are some great tech startup incubators and accelerators in Singapore as well as an entire complex, called JTC LaunchPad @ one-north, dedicated especially to startups.

"City? Country? Island? In fact, this place is all of the above, as well as on of the last places location-independent types flock to because of the first major drawback - money. Â Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in Asia for expatriates and visitors alike. However, there are quite a number of options when it comes to accommodation, which is everyone's biggest expenditure. Renting a room in a shared public housing flat (HDB) is the most affordable and convenient way to go. (Think stylish, modern spaces, not brutalist dystopian nightmares.)

Like its homes, Singapore conjures images of perfect tidiness, even sterility, unlike its grungier Southeast Asian neighbors. Streets and public areas are clean and people are incredibly polite. There is also a major upside for digital nomads in this strange urban ideal. Singaporeans tend to be deeply driven and fiercely hard workers - a real inspiration for your own business endeavors. If you have enough cash to initially get settled and are looking for a place to turn up the hustle to 11, Singapore's hyper-productive environment can be a huge asset.

When you do look at the clock and realize you've missed two meals, there is always some excellent Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern food to keep you going just outside your door (and 50 floors below you).

With its global reputation and high standards of living, Singapore attracts all types of people from across the world. With it being an English speaking nation, language barrier isn't a problem so it's easy to settle-in and make local friends.

The coworking community tends to fall into two camps : VC funded startups (or startups looking to raise) and local designers & developers. There are lots of meetups and events for the tech and startup communities in Singapore so keep an eye out for those - you never know who you'll meet!
