About Tempe
Over run with students and considered to be the academic and intellectual center of the "Valley of the Sun" due to being home to the Arizona State University, Tempe (aka Hayden's Ferry) definitely has a lively and dynamic nightlife partying scene.
Sitting in the East Valley in the Phoenix metropolitan area of Arizona, the cosmopolitan city is looked upon as a college town. Surrounded by Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale and Phoenix, Tempe is home to a number of research-centric industries ranging from biotechnology to solar energy and is a major hub in the Valley Metro light rail system.
There are no dramas getting around this town either by bus or rail and it is super bicycle friendly with dedicated bicycle lanes on most roads. If you don't want to sweat it out too much on one of their 330 sunny days per year, you can even hire an electric bicycle to get you where you want to go in a hurry.
First on the list should be a visit to the Arizona State University that was founded as a college in 1885 and is now a square mile arboretum style of parks, museums, exhibitions and the ASU Hayden Library where you can walk in and ask to see a page from an iconic Gutenberg Bible. The theater lovers have a Frank Lloyd Wright designed theater, ASU Gammage Auditorium, to catch a show at, whilst the budding astronauts can take in the ASU Mars Space Flight Facility. If you like to look at rocks and fossils then you can head to the ASU R S Dietz Museum of Geology to gawk at some extinct fossil mammals such as saber-toothed cats or fossil wood from the Petrified Forest. For some outdoor fun there is the Tempe Town Lake for boating and jogging around or to sit and watch the sunset from its banks.
If you brain is on overload merely take a stroll around the town checking out the street art or stop off at one of the many funky cafes for an espresso.
