About Iron Mountain

Iron Mountain in the state of Michigan has a population of about 7,624 residents so you should have plenty of opportunities to make new playmates or new best friends if you hang out in a bar, slurp coffee in a cafe or get to a coworking venue where you can mingle and rub shoulders with its innovative and creative crowd. The city was named after the iron ore found in the area. It's home to the abandoned Millie Hill mine where one of the largest bat hibernacula (think bat "cave") is to be found - think about 25,000 to 50,000 bats making their cozy winter homes to hang upside-down. You will also find one of the largest artificial ski jumps in the world at the Pine Mountain ski resort and the region is famous for its World Cup Ski Jumps.

Michigan has a tight-knit tech community spread throughout its small towns of eclectic gung-ho entrepreneurs who love to hang out in tribal bliss collaborating and supporting new ventures or mad ideas that may or may not see the light of day. It's a research powerhouse with heaps of ecosystems happening where magic occurs every day. Because of its small size geographically, sharing is caring, loyalty is everything and introductions are a given when needed. The Michigan Venture Capital Association provides growth reports of the tech industry in the region and it appears that there is a powerhouse of women founders. Economic development programs keep pace with the rapidly evolving ecosystem happening in a state that has historically seen the rise and fall of industry.

The intrepid souls of Michigan will not be defeated and coworking venues have become the battleground for many intent on seeing the success of their startup venture or those chasing the thrill of fresh snow when their brains are about to implode.
