About Boras

Boras sits at the point of 2 crossing railways of the nationwide railway system that was laid between 1870 and 1910. Officially a "locality" but mostly referred to as a "city", it has a long history dating back to 1621 when it was founded to give the local peddlers a legal place to sell their merchandise. It has been destroyed by fire on 4 occasions: in 1681, 1727, 1822 and 1827 with the Caroli Church being the only building to survive all 4 burnings. Coworking spaces in Boras have sprung up recently to give its dynamic students plus working locals the space to hang out and to get their stuff done, instead of having to put up with rowdy cafes or lonely home scenarios.

Awash in mail-order firms, it is home to many large companies such as Ericsson and Swedac, plus the worldwide clothing retailer H & M. The industries in Boras have close ties with the University College of Boras and the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden that is the largest technical research institute in the whole of Sweden. Both educational facilities are based in the town. Boras is also the home of the official Swedish Kilogram-weight and the atomic clock that sets the national time.

It's a bit on the rainy side, so make sure you have an umbrella with you and during the winter it has a freeze-thaw cycle that will have you running for your woollies. There is plenty to get up to around the city when you want time out from your coworking venue, or if you are simply in need of a bit of fresh air. You can meander around the zoo chatting to animals and there is an ingenious science center that will have you enthralled.
