Known affectionately as the “City of Smiles,” Bacolod is among the most progressive and developed cities to be found in the Philippines. It has been dubbed “the most livable city in the Philippines,” and boasts some of the best IT and business process infrastructure in the country, making it an excellent spot for a nomad to set-up shop for a while and explore these charming Pacific Islands.

The coastal breeze provides thankful relief from the sweltering heat pervading other regions and offers some sparkling beaches to relax on. Beaches are the only scenic splendor to be seen, nearby are some exceptional national parks, waterfalls, caves, and nature treks sure to appease those looking for active participation in the wilderness.

There’s plenty to see in town as well, as museums, grand churches, and historic buildings nuzzle more modern establishments, capped by an older Spanish sugar factory dubbed simply “The Ruins.” Various sporting events have a seat here with football capturing primary interest among the locals. Any time is a good time to see Bacolod, but the best time may be October when the locals break out their party masks Carnival style and parade through the streets with singing, dancing, and great food for a week. Just make sure not to have anything important planned so you can join in the merry-making.
