About Koh Tao
You don't have to have your PADI diving qualification to play with the fish on the island of Koh Tao, as you can walk straight into the azure waters of the Gulf of Thailand with your snorkel planted firmly over your face to swim with Nemo. The smallest of the Samui-Pha Ngan-Tao trio of idyllic islands, Koh Tao is for those that want to splash in water, wallow on golden sand sun worshipping and maybe do the odd bit of work in between at one of the coworking spaces dotted around.
With only about 1,500 permanent souls of which many are farangs (foreigners) that decided not to leave their nirvana nest, coworking spaces have made it possible for work to be combined with aquatic playtime. From professionals that have lingered beyond their planned time to global traipsing nomads with laptops, the workspaces have made it possible to live the perfect balance of work and lifestyle.
Tourism, especially scuba diving, is the exclusive economy of the island with its main village named Ban Mae Hat where you can hang at a sandy bar with a beverage in hand. It is one of the cheapest and best places to learn how to scuba dive in the world. For the fearless diver you can indulge in some night diving, wreck diving or merely jumping off the side of one of the many boats that head out into the endless blue every day.
With its laid-back attitude, this jungle-topped island is a wild card when it comes to the occasional full-moon party of decadence held on the nearby Koh Pha Ngan. If you are not into swimming with rays and sharks breathing through a plug-hole in your mouth, you can play Robinson Crusoe in the dense coastal jungle, go rock climbing or merely stay up until dawn raging at one of the bamboo bar huts and sleep all day snuggled in the warmth of the sand on the beach.
When you look like a broiled lobster and the scorching sun is the last thing you wish to be under, head to a coworking space and actually do some work.
