About Sungai Buloh

A city in the Petaling District of Selangor, Sungai Buloh was once the second biggest leprosy settlement in the world. From an outsiders point of view, Sungai Buloh may appear to be a quiet area within the Klang Valley, but it definitely has a colourful past. Today it's home to many prestigious housing areas, guarded and gated, and is the stomping ground for those that have green thumbs looking for vegetable seedlings, plants and fertilisers, as there are many garden nurseries within its boundaries. The town is also a major transport hub as it's one of the main stations under the new Mass Rapid Transit projects. Perched in a lush valley with a cool climate, Sungai Buloh is picture postcard perfect of a garden city. Curious people can today visit the old buildings of the Sungai Buloh Leprosy area with its old church, market and houses that were home to such a contained settlement. Coworking venues opening up in Sungai Buloh is keeping the locals productive, whether it be creating a new venture to digging up some dirt to make way for a new garden feature.

There are 3 main hubs for tech/startup gurus in Malaysia, that of Kuala Lumpur and Penang with Johor silently bubbling away. The city has an entrepreneurial culture that is transparent with work colleagues mingling friendship with creativity and a liberal attitude when it comes to sharing of ideas and knowledge.

With many locals wishing to start something of their own, Malaysian entrepreneurship is very much alive, and there have been a few extremely successful startups such as Grab, Jobstreet, MOL and AirAsia to come out of the country. With this in mind, it's little wonder that coworking venues are hives of activity and collaboration, whether in a big city or a small enclave such as Sungai Buloh.
