About Zacatecas

This is a city for the history lover as it's home to "La Quemada" archaeological site that is a large pre-Columbrian settlement with a museum, hilltop pyramid and columns. Zacatecas is the capital and the largest city of the state by the same name sitting in north-central region of Mexico. The town began its life as a Spanish mining camp in the mid 16th Century and today its colonial heart is a World Heritage Site. Most of its iconic buildings are built of pink stone and silver that glow in the sun at the feet of Cerro de la Bufa, one of the most famous mines in the world. Flush with a maze of narrow streets and winding alleys, piazzas decorated with colonial buildings from the 18th Century pop up when you least expect them to. Zacatacas is known for its clean air and pristine streets, whilst its surrounding hills are barren monuments to its semi-desert climate. Coworking venues have opened up in its streets to cater to its intrepid locals plus wandering globetrotters with laptops in their backpacks.

Startup ecosystems are thriving in Mexico and its transition to an innovation economy may just turn out to be one of the world's biggest economies in the next decade, if the government maintains its support for entrepreneurship by continuing to develop new initiatives to boost its growth. Mexico is at the heart of Latin America's tech revolution and has been the entry point for many global tech companies such as Uber, Google and Facebook in Latin America. Mexico has a growing economy with widespread mobile coverage, low banking penetration and an underdeveloped lending system that is pushing Mexican fintech to success. About 40% of fintech startups in Mexico are involved in the niche markets of lending or remittances.

Coworking venues claiming their spot in this historical city is no surprise, as the country is one of the most affordable to set up shop in.
