About Ascoli Piceno

Sitting in the heart of the country of Italy in the Marche region, Ascoli Piceno has a population of about 49,500, so it may take a bit of time to get to know most of the locals. Located where the small river of Castellano and the Tronto River meet, it's cuddled on 3 sides by mountains with 2 national parks for the adventurous to play in, Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini and Parco Nazionale dei Monti della Laga. Train connections will get you to the Adriatic coast or you can take a drive along the highway to reach Porto d'Ascoli when you feel the urge to flee the town's limits. Founded several centuries before the salt road (Via Salaria) was built by the Romans; the city has been ravaged by numerous people squabbling over it throughout the eons. In 1860 it became a part of the unified Kingdom of Italy and today old church bells ring out throughout the city, as it has a plethora of places of worship where you can say a little prayer for the success of your startup on the way to your coworking venue.

Ascoli Piceno's elegant Renaissance square is smothered in travertine paving, old ruins lurk around most corners and the Civic Picture Gallery is decorated with Murano glass chandeliers. Open-air markets are held in the square and you can still gawk at 50 of the still standing towers (originally there was about 200). There are stunning gardens to stroll through when your brain is about to implode and the Castellano River is where you can take a dip in the hot summer months.

Ascoli Piceno may not be the tech hub on a par with Turin, Milan or Rome, but it does have its locals who have no desire to move from their beautiful home city, plus there are the meandering globetrotters with laptops in their backpacks that linger longer than they should in this stunning area. Coworking venues are giving them the space to mingle, to connect and to collaborate in a beautiful city before heading off to scoff down the local specialty of "olive ascolane".
