About Grapevine

Think Indians and cowboys, horse drawn wagons in convoy with their bonnet clad women and sturdy male counterparts looking for land.  Dating back to 1843, Grape Vine Springs (aka Tah-Wah-Karro Creek) was where General Sam Houston and other members of the Republic of Texas met up with representatives from 10 American Indian nations to negotiate a peace treaty. Settlers began arriving in their covered wagons within a year. Later it would be the scene for the romantic and notorious couple Bonnie and Clyde, who both came from Dallas, to leave their mark in Grapevine. They spent quite a bit of time at Denton Creek in the area that is now known as Lake Grapevine.

Known as a World Festival and Event City by the International Festival and Events Association, it is no surprise when you consider that there are usually more than 1,400 pre-Christmas events.  No wonder it is also known as the Christmas Capital of Texas. Grapevine also hosts the annual festival "GrapeFest", the world's largest consumer-judged wine competition.  No matter what time of the year you go, there will always be a winery or two to venture into for a sample or more of local wine.

Sitting on Lake Grapevine, an 8,000 acre recreational lake complete with 2 marinas and more than 22 miles of wilderness trails for the bikers and hikers, there is plenty to keep the outdoor enthusiast enthralled.  There are 3 golf courses to do over for the golf junky or the Grapevine Mills mall for the shopaholic to thrash the plastic cards at. For the arty type there are museums, art galleries and the Public Art Trail that will leave you in the midst of the working artist studios at the southern end of Main Street.  Let the kid in you out to play and ride the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in a 1920's style coach that takes the historic Cotton Belt route.
