About Livingston

Sitting in Essex County of New Jersey, Livingston was named after the first Governor of New Jersey, William Livingston. It has a history dating back to 1699 when settlers arrived and negotiations began with the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. From landed aristocrats and settlers brawling with East Jersey proprietors over rents to riots that lasted 10 years, Livingston had one of the first colonial militia that endured battles for about 32 years leading up to the Revolutionary War. Not easily accessible, the town grew slowly and was a major lumber and farming area. Today it's predominantly a bedroom community with about 29,366 souls meandering the streets where stage coaches once hailed, sipping espresso in cafes and going to coworking spaces to get creative with likeminded souls.

A town of lush parks where cider apple trees once flourished, Livingston has all of the chain stores one would expect to find from Starbucks to ShopRite plus plenty of restaurants for when you want a night off from cooking. There are quite a few office parks that numerous major companies call home, such as the Inteplast Group. Luxury hotels are dotted around the town where there are many performing arts venues to see the latest offering, as well as galleries to poke your nose into for the artsy crowd.

Livingston may not be a tech hub per se, but it sits in the state with a legacy of innovation where some of the greatest technological advances were born, think fiber optics, digital cellular and LCD technology, barcoding plus many more. It's known as where scientists and engineers are pushing the boundaries with their innovative ideas that will propel the world into the future of radical new technology from cloud computing to augmented intelligence. It's ranked as 1 of the top 5 innovative states in the United States due to its highly educated workforce of more than 15,000 computer programmers, nearly 41,500 software developers and applications engineers plus 14,370 computer systems analysts. With this in mind it's little wonder that coworking venues are overflowing with tech savvy souls, mingling and collaborating.
