Apparently this is the perfect place to spawn children and raise them, New Rochelle is for mums and dads and their 2.5 red-cheeked children. Sitting in the county of Westchester of New York, it is the perfect town for walking, if you can dodge the prams. About 25 miles northeast of New York, it is definitely a "family friendly" area and has played muse to numerous authors of songs, books and films.
You will find 19 lush parks, 5 lakes, 3 nature areas plus playgrounds, a senior center (for the grannies and grandpas) and tennis courts. You can park your boat at the municipal marina and there is a new skate park that was opened in 2006. The Five Islands Park of course has various islands to play upon, linked to the mainland by bridges. There is an outdoor amphitheater, picnic areas and beaches to splash in the water. Neptune Park sits beside the marina and includes a fishing pier and bocce courts to throw a ball on. There is the New Rochelle Public Library if you want to do a bit of research or reading, the Museum of Arts and Culture on the New Rochelle High School campus as well as the Castle Gallery with art and crafts on display. You can grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in the city's downtown area or head to the Entertainment Complex to ride a bumper car or to go crazy at a laser tag course.... mmm
