About Redmond
The headquarters of Microsoft and Nintendo of America, Redmond is 26 km from Seattle. Known as the "Bicycle Capital of the Northwest" the city has an annual bike race through its streets and the state's only velodrome. This city is definitely for those into outdoor fitness.
With a massive 23 public parks, you will never be short of somewhere to go for a picnic or to find a sporting field of some description. The 560 acres of Marymoor Park features a climbing rock, a model airplane flying field, an outdoor theater, somewhere to walk your dog off its leash (just remember to pick up its poo preferably whilst wearing gloves), sports fields and the site of the velodrome for the FSA Star Crossed-Redmond cyclo-cross competition every September. There is also 27 km of hiking, bicycling or horseback riding trails to wear off some energy, either yours or the horse you are riding. You can visit the Microsoft Visitor Center to gawk at the latest and greatest gadgets, or have some cultural time at the Bellevue Arts Museum.
If the body is worn out from all of the outdoor activities, you can take in anything from classical music to Broadway style shows at the Performing Arts complex. Festivals in Redmond include a Derby and a Digital Art Festival.
