About Ypsilanti

Often referred to as "Ypsi", Ypsilanti is a city in the Washtenaw County in the state of Michigan known as home to the Eastern Michigan University. Many of its residents (around the 21,000 mark) or their ancestors migrated from Appalachia; hence certain neighborhoods especially on the far east side of the city are sometimes called "Ypsitucky". The heart of Ypsilanti is where the Huron River and Michigan Avenue intersect. The city has the 2nd largest historic district in the state of Michigan where you can find heaps of shops to trash your credit card at, plenty of bars and funky cafes, as well as a farmers' market if you are into local produce. There is a 3-way wooden footbridge over the Huron River that connects Riverside Park, Frog Island Park and Depot Town to check out. The Ypsilanti Water Tower (1890) has won the award for being the winner of the "Most Phallic Building" and the Starkweather Chapel in the Highland Cemetery is where you can say a little prayer for your startup to succeed on your way to your coworking space.

Michigan has an emerging ecosystem where its top-tier universities, gritty culture and the need to diversify from an historical economy is changing the landscape of its' transformation. Known as the motor capital of the world, the city is now seeing firms like Invest Michigan and Invest Detroit (to name a couple) investing hundreds of millions of dollars in startups.

There is a wealth of brainpower and talent walking the streets of Ypsilanti, as with many other Michigan towns, who are now collaborating and connecting in coworking venues that have opened up to support creatives.
