About Opava

Known as the white pearl of Silesia, Opava sits in the east of the Czech Republic on the river of the same name. This is the historical capital of Czech Silesia cloaked in parks with 2 towers dominating the city. The white tower known as Hláska is perched on the Neo-Renaissance Opava Town Hall on Horní náměstí square and the second spire is on the Gothic Church of the Assumption of Our Lady that hails from the 13th Century. Opava is the business and cultural hub of the region and home to the only public university in the country not sitting in a regional capital. With quite a few students and plenty of tech savvy souls within its midst, it's little wonder that coworking venues have opened their doors on the streets of the city.

A town shrouded in history with a population of 57,843, Opava will give the history buff plenty of opportunities to get excited. Museum enthusiasts can prance around the Silesian Museum that is the oldest museum in the Czech Republic, as it was founded in 1814 and you can lay eyes on Opavas executioner's sword from the Middle Ages at Municipal House. For the romantics there is a beautiful chateaux or if you want to chase a little white ball in a game of golf you can do that as well in the chateaux' gardens and forget the romantic bit.

Opava is not tech hub, but it does have a vibrant community of creative people involved in the Czech startup scene that is on the rise with companies such as Avast and AVG having roots in the Czech Republic. With a population of around the 11-million mark plus a new hip name "Czechia", the country is seeing startups patenting their know-how and registering brands bringing their ideas into the realms of reality. Coworking spaces are packed with good vibes and there is plenty of knowledge sharing amongst its industrious communities.
