About Valencia

Getting around Valencia is easy, as it has a somewhat smaller version of the London Underground thumping its way under the city.  It is where the "holy grail", the cup of Jesus fame, is kept in the cathedral sitting in the heart of Valencia.  Reeking of history, culture, cute laneways and bustling streets, it is a mix of the old and the new.  From medieval towers and castles to art deco buildings, the cosmopolitan vibe can be found in any cafe along one of the wide tree-lined shopping streets.

Sitting on what is called the "Orange Blossom Coast" wearing its mantle of being the City of Arts and Sciences, there is no lack of things to entertain and amuse.  Head to the oceanarium, planetarium or an interactive museum to kick start the brain molecules, swan around one of the beaches or take a hike in the wetlands reserve of Albufera Park for a bit of twittering.  You can go to the Plaza del Reina and have a typical tourist ride in a horse taxi. Just make sure you have a firm grip on your bag, as it is a hot spot for pickpockets and thieves.  Don't eat in one of the big piazzas, as they are generally totally tourist orientated and hence overpriced, so head down the side alleys where the locals hang out to grab a bite.  Visit the historical central market and go on a food drooling tour, or take time for some retail therapy in the quirky street markets that seem to be everywhere, instead of the generic shopping areas.
If you happen to be in Valencia in March you will be treated to the loud and chaotic "Fellas" festival where firecrackers and weird statues feature prominently, along with copious amounts of alcohol and outrageous costumed locals cavorting the streets.
