Coworking in Melbourne About Melbourne
Melbourne - there are three sides to this swaive sophisticated metropolitan city: That of the black clad business people, the designer label socialites who call each other "darhling" and the good old "bogan" from the outer suburbs, but then again they can be found in any Australian city. Actually it was nicknamed "Smellbourne" in the 1880's for the cesspool state of the Yarra River. One typhoid epidemic too many saw the building of a sewerage system to divert the yuk 30 km away to Werribee. The Yarra River is still a nice shade of brown however.
Melbourne is a land of trams, in fact it has the largest system outside of Europe. To this day it is home to the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the Western World due to the Chinese prospectors founding Chinatown in 1851. It has given the world Fosters beer and vegemite, that horrible yeast extract that all Australians love and even deign to take overseas in their carry on luggage when going on holidays, as they can't live without it.
Being sports obsessed, Melbourne has five international sporting facilities literally on the doorstep of its city heart, historical 19th Century buildings in tree lined streets, a vibrant river scene with the Southbank precinct perched on the riverbank complete with flash hotels and a casino. For those that love to soak up some culture, the Melbourne Arts Precinct includes the National Gallery of Victoria where you can find Australian and Indigenous art on display.
There are world class restaurants, elegant bars, mega shopping venues and some of the best street art to be found in the world.
