About Fuengirola

A town on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain, Fuengirola is for the sun worshippers or if you like to get sand between your toes. It's famous for its beaches and its medieval Moorish Sohail Castle that looms over the coastline. Fuengirola hosts numerous festivals, concerts and a medieval market every summer when a plethora of bronzed bodies swan around the streets. This is not a tech hub but a resort town that buzzes especially during the summer months. Coworking venues have sprung up to cater to the locals who have no wish to leave their stunning backyard of sun drenched beaches and for the intrepid wandering souls who wish to get some work done whilst trotting around the globe.

In ancient times the city was known as "Suel" and then in later years "Suhayl". Its historical roots lay in the Phoenician, Roman and Arab civilizations and there are a number of ruins to gawk at to keep a smile on the face of the history buff. You can always head to the old port for a bit of a morning chat with a number of fishermen that still use it. Today the town has that sunny holiday feel to it with a promenade running along its foreshore that includes some smaller adjacent villages. About a quarter of its 72,000 permanent inhabitants come from other countries and English is widely spoken, so you won't have to brush up on your Spanish unless you wish to.

There are plenty of opportunities for tech savvy entrepreneurs with Spanish startups growing 7% in 2017 with signs pointing to a consolidation within the startup community. Spain has a high quality education system that is pushing out hungry youths who are no longer rushing to pursue their careers abroad. Spain's entrepreneurial activity is spread throughout the whole country with hot spots in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as within smaller regions. Coworking venues are giving the Fuengirola locals the space to meet, connect and collaborate, with the advantage of being able to jump in the ocean during a mid-morning break.
