About Kailua
Predominantly a residential community with a centralized commercial district, Kailua is a town on the east coast of the island of Oahu. A town for beach loving innovative gurus to hang out in, Kailua sits a mere 30 minutes from Waikiki and Honolulu on the island's windward side. The town of around 38,635 inhabitants has a laid-back charm with a subtle buzz, unlike its neighbors. You will find long stretches of glorious sand made for sun worshipping and the perfect ocean for those into their water playtime. Coworking spaces have been popping up to cater to the creative locals when they aren't out in the wilds trekking or shopping in the weekly Kailua Farmers' markets overflowing with local fresh produce.
Kailua is not a tech hub, but it does have its innovative souls creating a community of friendly, passionate and welcoming individuals. Living in this pristine environment gives you the chance to wallow in turquoise waters plus windsurf or kitesurf at Kailua Beach Park, which is often on the "best beaches" lists. You can roll around soft sand at Lanikai Beach or for the energetic there is trekking the Lanikai Pillbox Hike (Ka’iwa Ridge Trail) that rises high above Lanikai Beach. If you don't mind getting a bit muddy you can always take the Maunawili Falls Trail so that you can commune with nature and indulge in some contemplative time or chat to some ducks and turtles whilst you jog along the Kawai Nui Marsh trail.
Kailua's coworking scene is a work in progress as more and more locals jump out of cafes or get over working from home.
