About New Haven

Home to the Ivy League Yale University that was founded in 1701, the coastal city of New Haven sits on Long Island Sound in Connecticut. For the curious, the knowledge-seekers and those with mega-brains there is the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art to poke your nose around. Located on the New Haven Harbor, it's a part of the New York metropolitan area with a population of around 129,779 residents making it the 2nd largest city in Connecticut. The first planned city in America, New Haven was founded in 1638 by English Puritans. Today, the city touts itself as the "Cultural Capital of Connecticut" for its plethora of theaters, music venues and museums. In amongst its green elm-filled streets, coworking venues have popped up to cater to its innovative locals giving them somewhere to hang out in collaborative bliss whilst in creative mode.

New Haven has quite a few neighborhoods, from its downtown area overflowing with upscale restaurants, thousands of apartments and condominium units and shops to its Quinnipiac River Historic District that is merely one of a dozen historic districts in the city. Connecticut has actually been flying under the radar as far as its tech scene is concerned, but it has so far produced 2 unicorns, startups valued at more than one billion. The region has engaged universities offering mentorship, programs and seed funding to help fledgling startups grow. Its ecosystems are diverse and in viable locations. To-date the floodgates have opened and the region is home to around 1,000 tech startups.

Connecticut shines as a place to live and work at a fraction of the cost of some other locations plus it has a great outdoor lifestyle. Local economies are being rejuvenated and the number of funky cafes, bars and restaurants is increasing to cater to the growing number of relocating or stay-at-home entrepreneurs. Coworking venues opening their doors is one more step in this gradually maturing ecosystem with New Haven at the top of the pile.
