About Bucheon
Sitting between Seoul and Incheon, Bucheon is a city in the Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It's actually a satellite city of Seoul and the 2nd most densely populated city after Seoul. The major manufacturing operations sit in the north of the city, whilst the south overflows with residential and commercial areas. It has been designated a "City of Literature" and has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network since 2017. Definitely a town overflowing with creative and interesting vibes, coworking venues have opened up in the city to cater to its' local innovative youth who have no desire to leave their own home turf.
Korea is a relatively new comer to the startup scene, but it has taken off with top accelerators such as SparkLabs, KSTARTUP and FT Accelerator happening. As of January 2015 the number of startups in South Korea soared to about 30,000, with 63 rising to number one in terms of market share in their niche markets. The government is encouraging a "creative economy" offering more backing per capita than any other country around the globe. In fact the government has put up $3.7 billion for startups in the form of grants and initiatives. South Korea has the 4th highest mobile penetration in the world and the highest credit card penetration (imagine 5 credit cards per person) that creates a world of opportunities for rapid adoption in sectors such as mobile commerce.
Seoul is a playground for entrepreneurs where there are a number of networking events connecting creatives with investors and partners. Seoul actually has half of Korea's population living within its midst, making it easy for the masses to adopt and spread new technologies quickly. Its' bustling young tech savvy entrepreneurs, many of whom studied outside of Korea, are aiming their fledgling businesses at a global market. Coworking spaces are giving them the space to collaborate and mingle with likeminded souls.
