About Edinburg
Edinburg is in the Hidalgo County of Texas where you will find the internationally famous 825,000 acre King Ranch that covers 6 different counties (larger than Rhode Island) in the West. Offiially incorporated in 1919, Edinburgh breeds them quirky. It is said that in 1996 a local was bitten by a poisonous coral snake who got his own back by biting the snake's head off and using the snake's skin as a tourniquet to stop the venom from spreading. A part of the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission and Reynosa-McAllen metropolitan areas, this is where it is illegal to milk another person's cow, so be warned.
Edinburg has a thriving arts and culture scene with numerous dynamic live music performances of different genre, dance festivals, art shows and for the lover of theater, numerous plays staged each year mostly held at the UTPA Center for the Performing Arts. The town has numerous art galleries predominantly showcasing talented local artists and enough museums from contemporary to historical exhibitions to keep the museum buff happy. For the horse-racing addict there is the Edinburg Racetrack to bet on the nags and if watching a movie is your idea of fun, you can go to the local theater that is the largest in South Texas. There is the Edinburg Municipal Golf Course for the avid golfer to play a round or two plus a barbecue area for after the game. The Edinburg Municipal Park is where you can join the locals in a game of soccer or baseball and there is 1.5 mile jogging trail to strut your stuff on. An area dedicated to time outdoors with picnic tables, barbecue facilities, and 2 man-made lakes to swan around on for a bit of fishing or canoeing.
If none of the above appeals, then head to the pedestrian area of McIntyre Street and wallow in a cafe or restaurant gorging yourself on a chicken chimichanga - a deep fried burrito of decadence.
