About Bandar Baru Bangi

Known as "Knowledge City", Bandar Baru Bangi has numerous universities such as the National University of Malaysia, Infrastructure University of Kuala Lumpur and plenty of research institutes namely the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and others, this is one city that has no shortage of brain power walking around its streets or bunkering down in coworking venues. Sitting in the Hulu Langat district of Selangor, it's actually named after the small town of Bangi, which is further south. Bandar Baru Bangi is located about 25km from the hustling crowded streets of Kuala Lumpur, the city is also known for its famous cuisine and the eateries dishing it up. Its streets are literally dotted with mamak stalls, curbside vendors, restaurants dishing up super fresh seafood or offering Thai, Arabic, and Japanese, as well as Malaysian cuisines. Night markets are flourishing colorful enclaves of mayhem and there are numerous shopping malls to keep a smile on the faces of shopaholics.

There are 3 main hubs for tech/startup gurus in Malaysia, that of Kuala Lumpur and Penang with Johor silently bubbling away. The city has an entrepreneurial culture that is transparent with work colleagues mingling friendship with creativity and a generous attitude when it comes to sharing of ideas and knowledge. Startups are scattered throughout the area and Johor does need more intrepid souls plus more support organizations to really bounce out of its brewing stage.

With many locals wishing to start something of their own, Malaysian entrepreneurship is very much alive and there have been a few extremely successful startups such as Grab, Jobstreet, MOL and Airasia to come out of the country. With this in mind, it's little wonder that coworking venues are hives of activity and collaboration no matter what city in Malaysia.
