Grand Rapids is nicknamed "Furniture City," as it's home to some of the world's top office furniture companies. But, the city is also seeing a major growth in the industries of health sciences, technology, and other types of manufacturing.
Some top companies with branches here include GE Aviation, Bissell, and Spectrum Health. And, it also has a thriving agriculture industry due to the area's unique climate. This, plus other major "green" efforts, were factors in the city recently being named "the most sustainable midsize city in the U.S."
On the leisure side, there are the breweries - twenty, to be exact. And when you're not raising a glass with your favorite ale, you can hit the greens (the city is known for its golf) or just enjoy them at the Frederik Meijer Gardens, a huge tropical conservatory. Also check out the Heritage Hill neighborhood, one of the biggest urban historic districts in the U.S. with over 60 unique styles of architecture. Plus, every September/October, the city plays host to Art Prize, the largest art exhibition in the U.S.
