About Cusco
Where you will base yourself if you have a hankering to visit Maccu Picchu, Cusco is probably not a town that you will linger in for very long. Do make sure that you give your body time to acclimatize to its high altitude before you go gallivanting around this beautiful city that was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Sitting in the Peruvian Andes, it is not a coworking hot spot or a startup mecca, but you will find a few coworking spaces to get that important work done if need be.
A city for the history buffs, Cusco is awash in archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture that you may have to fight off the other tourists to see. For many laptop-totting nomads, Maccu Picchu is a must-do destination, so now that there are coworking spaces, you don't have to forget about getting some work done whilst playing Indiana Jones. Even the local freelancing professionals are getting in on the act, as the Internet connection in most cafes is forlornly inadequate.
You can play in this city for a relatively cheap price with good restaurants and plenty of gringo friendly nightlife happening. It's easy to duck out of the doors of your coworking space and fall into the tourist throng where your ears will ring with the musical call of "massage, massage" ad nauseam. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage Listed town, is small so make sure you have your walking shoes on. You can have your caffeine hit in one of the cafes in the heart of the city at the Plaza de Armas in the old city where you will find carved wooden balconies dangling off buildings and Incan wall ruins. The Temple of the Sun is smothered in Inca stonework and the surrounding area is perfect for the adventurous soul who wishes to go trekking in the wilds, white water rafting or mountain biking.
If you are feeling a bit under the weather check out the soup lady of Cusco's San Pedro Market and her plastic tub of live frogs waiting to be boiled. This miraculous frog broth supposedly cures any ailments from asthma to headaches.
