About Arrecife

A port city sitting on the east coast of Lanzarote, one of Spain's Canary Islands, Arrecife has been the capital of Lanzarote since 1852. Its stunning Plaua del Reducto beach is where golden sand meets calm water and the city's old quarter hides the bell tower of the 17th Century San Gines Church. Here you will find a local population of around the 55,600 mark and the city is served by ferries connecting it to the other islands, Europe and mainland Africa. Coworking spaces are popping up in the streets to cater to the locals looking for somewhere to work from other than their kitchen benches or the local cafes.

Despite being an island, Arrecife is a reflection of the developing startup ecosystem happening on the Spanish mainland. This is the island paradise where you will find everything that you love about Spanish life from its fantastic tapas hours, the shenanigans of its soccer fans and old charming buildings. With a history of pirate attacks from the 15th Century (the notorious pirate "Dogan" almost completely destroyed the then port village in 1571), Arrecife gets its name from the black volcanic reefs behind which boats would hide from the marauding hordes.

Arrecife may not be a burgeoning startup hub or have a brilliant ecosystem for startups happening, but it does have coworking spaces where you can work and take your coffee breaks on the beach.
