Charles M Schulz, the mind behind the "Peanuts" cartoon strip lived in Santa Rosa for 40 years and the town has been the used in the scenes of the movie Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Shadow of Doubt".
In a nod to Charles Schulz's creativity there is the Charles M. Schulz Museum & Research Center, where you can see the amazing art of this cartoonist. There is an ice skating ring, The Redwood Empire Ice Arena, if you know how to slide around on the ice or like having a wet rear end. It's even possible to go on an adventure safari at Safari West, a 400-acre wildlife preserve with a Kenyan flavor. You can take in a live show at the Wells Fargo Center for Arts, or take a walk back in time and go to the Historic Railroad Square. If you feel like exploring a bit of nature, head to the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve for trekking, or take a picnic and see the amazing sight of some of the tallest and oldest trees in California. There is the River Rock Casino for those that want to throw a bit of money away, or a stunning outdoor sculpture garden at the Paradise Ridge Winery worth taking a look at for at least 20 minutes before grabbing a taste of wine.
