About Ernakulam

Ernakulam per se is not a city, but it refers to the eastern mainland portion of the city of Kochi in central Kerala, India. It's here that you will find the Kerala High Court, the Office of the Corporation of Kochi and the Cochi Stock Exchange plus the major railway station of the Indian Railways, Ernakulam Junction. Once the capital of the Kingdom of Cochin, it sits 220km northwest of the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram and serves as a major financial and commercial hub of Kerala plus an incubation enclave for many Malavali entrepreneurs who have a habit of hanging out in coworking venues littered around the region.

Dating back to the Stone Age, this is a history buffs wet panty location with monolithic monuments (Dolmens) and rock-cut caves. During the ancient and medieval eras, Ernakulam was linked to the outside world via its trade relations. With a climate where winters will still have you sweating, its port and shipyard have created relentless growth in the region. Tourism is a main factor in the city's economy, as it's awash in temples and old churches with heaps of culture to soak up plus plenty of beaches and islands to explore. Sitting on the outskirts of the city are the technology parks "InfoPark, Kochi" and "SmartCity, Kochi".

Local IT gurus are expounding that it is a good time to be an entrepreneur in India, as the market has matured from being just a bubble. Startups are hitting new highs and global investors are putting funds into the sector, whilst innovative Indians are attempting to create the next billion-dollar company. The IT sector ranges from e-commerce to fitness and art, as it is being driven by India's expanding economy, rising disposable income and the tech boom. Coworking venues are supporting these intrepid souls whether they are students or seasoned professionals by giving them the space to mingle, collaborate and the space to get their stuff done before they rush home to gorge on some Rogan Josh.
