Dar Mar offers Accommodation & Co-working place featuring Private Rooms, Dorms Options, various working spaces, one Restaurant & Bar and one swimming pool.
Dar Mar goal is to offer its guests comfort, good vibes and perfect work environment to delight all the travelers wishing to meet, work or escape in paradise.
This place was created in 2021 and opened its doors 1 year later. The entire decoration has been inspired by Africa and its culture that the owner deeply respects and wishes to highlight in every detail.

Neighborhood
Dar Mar is located in Zanzibar, in the center of the village of Paje. This area is a very dynamic place, accommodating many restaurants, shops and venues. The main road of Dar Mar is safe to walk during evening time. In this area, all the activities are close by and can be easily arranged: kitesurfing, visiting natural caves, local wooden boat tour, snorkeling, jozani forest, turtle sanctuary, local villages, secret beaches…

Co-working space:
Dar Mar accommodates working space areas (inside and outside) with a stable and best available high speed internet of the island (22mdbs) and sockets at disposal.
Access fees for the coworking space: 10 USD per day.
For more than one week, discount: 7 USD per day.
Kindly note that the Dar Mar guests staying with us have free and unlimited access to the coworking areas.

Very Disappointing

I'm not a type of person that likes to give bad reviews, just for the sake of it, but unfortunately, this place was the biggest disappointment from many years of travelling the world as a digital nomad. So my mind can't really focus on the good things, unfortunately. I'm not sure how to put it in words, but the 5 days we have spent in Dar Mar were very challenging. Lets start from the practicalities of life: we arrived on a Sunday stormy day, so no electricity neither internet was available for most of the day. We did not have to work, so it was ok, we thought it is just a bad day in general for all of us. Monday, I had to work. Very challenging, power cuts, Wifi with ups and downs. Tuesday: we kindly asked if we could have the breakfast 20 min earlier since we were going on a tour on that day, which we were told yes. We thought, oh so nice from them. Nobody was there in the morning, so we left the place without breakfast. No problem, but please, just do not promise what you cannot deliver. Wednesday: no water, neither electricity in the morning. We left early morning without washing our faces and left the toilet unfleshed. We returned in the evening, just to realise that nobody even came to clean our room since we check-in on Sunday, that said, the pee from the morning, was still there (we did not realised that we had a water cut, that's why we used the toilet). Thursday: no water in the morning again. Had to go to a cafe to use their toilette and do some basic washing. We complained about the situation, no proper answers or resolutions. We worked the whole day from the cafes, since there was no electricity in the co-working, neither wifi. We returned home when it was already dark, maybe at 19h, just to realize that was still no water and no electricity. That said, no shower, no toilette, and we had to use our 10% battery mobilies see something. Again, no apologising neither a resolution. When finally around 22h the water and electricity came back, we took a shower and the bathroom flooded. It felt that everything had to go bad on that week, really. Out of frustration, on Friday morning we made an earlier check-out, in hope to move into a place where the basic needs were met. We were promised to get our 2 nights back via bank transfer, which we never got. It already passed almost 4 weeks and no emails were answered. This place is run and ruined by the most unsympathetic people I ever encountered in the tourism industry. They are Europeans, from Serbia and all I heard was "This is Africa" to excuse the issues. Never an apologising nor really explaining what the issue was with their generators, neither had a plan B. All I can say is, if "this is Africa" please learn with the Africans: - Always have a smile and an apologise, and mean it! - Have a Plan B: give torches and buckets with water to your guests. - Explain whats going on and whats you plan of action to solve it. - Be kind. - Live upon your word. Besides all the basic needs that were not met, I would not call it a co-working space due to it's unappropriated furniture, and most of all, culture. There is zero digital nomad vibe in there. Just very lost and stressed people :( I hope this review makes the owners and the crew to have some thought about what the hell are you doing besides ruin their own business.
