About Portland

If you like seeing a bit of bare flesh then head to Portland for the annual World Naked Bike Ride with about 13,000 participants flashing their bits and pieces of bouncing boobs and jiggling appendages. It has been granted "tradition" status thereby flying in the face of public decency laws. There are more strip clubs per capita than anywhere else in the United States, with or without bicycles. You can actually get legally married at Voodoo Doughnuts and it is the only city to have a volcano within its city limits. The chocoholics will be happy as it is home to the largest continual chocolate waterfall at the Candy Basket shop. For those that wish to rollerblade in bathrooms, do beware, as this particular activity is illegal.

One of the most bike friendly towns in the United States, Portland sits on a peninsula thrusting into the Casco Bay in the state of Maine. Make sure you strut your stuff along the Old Port promenade on the waterfront where you can have a look at working fishing wharves, indulge in a caffeine hit in one of the many cafes or have a long decadent lunch in one of the many restaurants after destroying your credit card darting in and out of the numerous shops. There are amazing views to be had from the public park on the top of a bluff overlooking the river and the mountains, whilst the architecture buffs will get their rocks off looking at the gorgeous Victorian-era homes in the West End district.

For an aromatic Zen experience you should head to the International Rose Test Garden where you can smell your way through over 500 different types of roses, some of which were planted in 1917. If your stomach drives your day, you will be in heaven, as you can eat at a different Portland food cart every nights for 2 years and never eat at the same place twice. There are numerous amusement parks to let the inner child out such as Palace Playland or Funtown Splashtown. You can chase lighthouses to photograph, as there are 6 within the city's vicinity. You can grab an antique book or peer at American and European paintings at the Portland Museum of Art. If you feel like soaring with the birds, then take a hot air balloon ride or grab a canoe or a kayak and paddle the Saco River for a bit of down to earth fun.
