About Somerset

A "little" city in the Pulaski County of Kentucky, Somerset has actually been featured in the television series of City Confidential when a drug dealer was plotting to kill the local sheriff.  "My Classic Car", "Car Crazy" and several other rev head shows have also featured Somerset, because of its annual Classic Car Festival "Somernites Cruise" held each April.  This is when the streets are bumper to bumper with gleaming vehicles and mega bullish trucks cruising around the town.  First settled in 1798, it was not recognized as a city until 1887. It is where historical civil war battles were fought and the crystal waters of Lake Cumberland are known as the "Houseboat Capital of the World".

Be a kid and get excited about having a ride on the Big South Fork Scenic Railway, visit the mammoth sandstone bridge and the Natural Arch Scenic Area to take to the woods and trails of the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. You can splash about at "SomerSplash", a 30-acre water park complete with wave pool, when the waters of Lake Cumberland are just too placid for an adrenalin rush.
The Master Musicians Festival happens annually in July when you can listen to an eclectic list of performers such as Willie Nelson and Counting Crows.  You can donate blood at the annual Somerset Zombie Walk, apart from eating a feast and having a dance-off or a ghostly walk through the historical Somerset Cemetery.  There is a Harvest Moon Festival every October and for the angler, there is the "Battle of the Bass" fishing competition, where casting is the only way you are allowed to catch a fish.
