Home to 2 paper mills with heaps of businesses in the tourism and the automotive industry, Port Huron sits in the county of St Clair in Michigan. Sitting on the St Clair River at the southern end of Lake Huron, you can cross the Blue Water Bridge to get to Point Edward in Ontario, Canada. Following the Civil War, Port Huron trailed New York City in the number of immigrants pouring into its city.

The city is touted as being the "central city" of the St Clair County with more than 3,544 acres of waterways within its limits. You can take a look around the marina, meander along the boardwalk or check out the historic downtown area. For the history geek there is the park where once Fort St Joseph (1686) stood that was a French Garrison base up until 1688. There is also the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse (1829) standing at 26m tall and still guiding ships through the narrow fast flowing St Clair River and the Lightship Huron to gush over. Head to the Port Huron Museum and check out the Grand Trunk Railway Depot. The site where Thomas Edison at the tender age of 12 would depart on a daily basis on the Huron-Detroit run, selling newspapers to support himself. There is the Port Huron Museum of Arts and History to explore, as well as the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Tunnel that opened in 1891, an international submarine railway tunnel and the first in the world.

For those not into the musty historical years, the town does have 14 public parks to relax in, numerous playgrounds which must mean there are a lot of kids in the area, tennis courts, swimming pools and 2 public beaches to have a splash at.
