About Khmelnitsky

This is not the place to get boob jobs done, but apparently "dental" tourism is high on the list of reasons as to why people go to Khmelnitsky. You will be greeted by a drab and depressing train station if you come by train, where the usual dubious suspects hang out, especially at night. As with many international destinations when you grab a taxi, the driver will "kindly" take you on the super long (often not) scenic route to get to your destination.

A regional city sitting on the Southern Buh River in Ukraine's west, it has appeared in the records since 1493, but under the name of "Ploskuriv". Renamed "Proskuriv" in the 1780s, it wasn't until 1941 that it became a regional center. In 1954 it was again renamed to what it is known as today, Khmelnitsky. The town's region has 20 districts, 13 towns, 24 settlements and 1417 villages. It is an industrial area with industries in machine engineering and metalworking.

Khmelnitsky, located in the historical region of Podolia, is an easy city to walk around. Here you will find friendly locals and an authentic Ukrainian cityscape. There is not much to occupy a tourist, so unless you want perfect sparkling white teeth, this town may not be the place to be. Apparently the dental tourism trade in the city is booming due to the fact that the prices are cheaper than its rival tooth fixing town, Kiev. Just be prepared to have another patient sitting right beside you getting work done, at the same time.
