Dnipro, formerly known as Dnipropetrovsk but renamed during the process of de-communization after the most recent Maidan, is an industrial center of Ukraine that was once a hub for the Soviet military industry. Foundries, vehicle factories, weapons manufacturers and later an aerospace industry have been the backbone of Dnipro’s economy. While the city is not quite as large as the more popular Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa, it is becoming quite a hub for entrepreneurs and coworking brands, with many shared offices now available in the city center and outskirts.
Today, plush mansions once built by 19th-century industrialists and the longest promenade in Europe speak to the city’s fluctuating prosperity. After a day of coworking, you can take a lovely stroll along the Dnipro River, which, at 2,201 kilometers, is the third longest river in Europe after the Volga and the Danube. You can also visit Monastyrsky Island, which is directly connected to the waterfront along the Dnipro shore by cable car or bridge. On the island, there is a large monument in honor of the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko and some attractions such as an aquarium and a ferris wheel. Beyond the waterfront attractions, Dnipro is a bustling city with plenty of shops, restaurants, and a great quality of life that is worth visiting.
