About Valladolid

A mix of Mayan and Spanish culture permeates the university town of Valladolid. Known as one of Mexico's "Pueblos Magicos" (magical towns) it is what you would expect of a town over run with youthful exuberance. Not only are there plenty of coworking spaces for the local students to hang out in mingling with global wandering nomads and local professionals, the nightlife scene throbs and there are plenty of funky cafes to sip espresso in as you watch the passing people parade.

Nights can be super long with the locals eating at around the 10pm mark, then checking out a bar for a couple of drinks before hitting the nightclub scene at around 2 or 3 in the morning. Breakfast may become a thing of the past and afternoon siestas definitely a necessity to keep the brain waves happening. Only 2 hours from Cancun, Valladolid on the Yucatan Peninsula feels like it is a million miles away with its quaint cobblestoned streets and pastel colored buildings. Cloaked in natural beauty with an abundance of cultural treats, it is the perfect town to pedal a bicycle around when you don't have your head bent over your laptop.

A town where you will not be run over by tourists, the day-trippers from Cancun make up for this. From May to November are the cheapest months to linger here, with the high season being from December to March. The restaurant scene has everything covered from local classics (think enchiladas and chilaquiles) to vegetarian havens to satisfy the loudest tummy rumbles. Throw in a dynamic street food scene and you definitely won't go hungry. When you need a break from busting your brain waves you can jump on a bicycle and head to one of the 3,000 "cenotes" (natural pit or sinkhole formed by limestone exposing underground water holes) to cool off.
