About Lucena

Sitting on the Lucena River that is a minor tributary of the Genil, Lucena is at the crossroads of the very center of Andalusia. It is the 2nd major city in the province of Cordoba with a population of around the 42,000 mark. The locals are called "lucentinos" and the city was originally known as "Eliossana". Historically it has been trampled over by numerous warmongers and its parish church dates from the ending of the 15th Century. Now you will find coworking venues in its cobblestoned streets catering to the industrious locals and the globe trotting meanderers with laptops on their backs.

Its economy is based mainly in furniture and industrial refrigerators, wine, pottery and bronze lamps. It's here where they used to make the huge earthenware jars (tinajas) for the storage of oil and wine throughout Spain. If you are into horses there is a famous horse fair in September each year.

This is the city that you want to be in during Easter celebrations for its unique way of carrying sculptures on the bearers' shoulders, many of which are hundreds of years old, during the processions. The most incredible spectacle can be seen on Easter Thursday when 9 "pasos" take to the streets in an amazing scene of religious piety. Parades are basically held every day during the week of Easter, so don't fret if you miss out on one day.

Coworking in Lucena will give you the chance to mingle with the creative locals, get to know a bit of history and be able to amble into one of the many local bars to enjoy some great wine and tapas at the end of the day.
