Dr Seuss (aka Theodor Seuss Geisel) the famous children's author, was born here and this is where basketball was created in 1891. Springfield is known as the "Knowledge Corridor" because of its high concentration of higher-learning institutions. Home to numerous biotech firms and high-speed computing centers, this is where you will find Massachusetts' largest Fortune 100 Company, Mass Mutual Financial Group. For the architecture lover, Springfield is awash in Victorian houses and gilded age mansions.
