About Bethesda

Featured in the movies True Lies, The Bourne Legacy and numerous others, Bethesda has also been the setting for numerous television shows such as Family Guy, the X-Files and an episode of Homeland.

Sitting in Montgomery County of Maryland, it is technically a suburb of Washington DC. Recently the town has seen a building boom of luxury apartment developments in this enclave where the residents are considered to be sophisticated and smart (8 Pulitzer Prize winners live in Bethesda). It has actually been named as one of America's most educated (79% have bachelor degrees of some sort) and top earning small towns. The main campus of the National Institutes of Health and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are located in Bethesda and it is often associated with its neighbors such as Maryland, Potomac, Great Falls and Virginia. Bethesda is said to be one of the most livable cities in America.

If you want to go exploring downtown there is a freebie bus that operates every day except for sleepy Sunday, when everyone is probably reading the newspaper. Make sure you check out the farmers markets, meander around Bethesda Row for its mega shopping opportunities, check out any of the dynamic restaurants or gawk at one of the monuments of the "Madonna of the Trail" that were erected by the National Old Trails Association. You can follow the old tracks of the B & O Railroad known as the Capital Crescent Trail stretching from Georgetown to Silver Spring. For the architecture lover of Art Deco style, there is the Bethesda Theater and the Walter Reed Medical Center to eyeball.

If you are into golf then you will be in your element fronting up to one of the most prestigious country clubs in the world, the Congressional Country Club, where numerous golf championships have bee held. If hitting a little white ball isn't your thing, then take in an international music concert at the 2,000-seat state-of-the-art concert hall.
