About Cirencester

A market town in east Gloucestershire of England, Cirencester is only 130km west northwest of London, so you can easily run to the big smoke if need be. Sitting on the lower dip slopes of the Cotswold Hills on an outcrop of limestone, it's perched on the banks of the River Churn that is a tributary of the Thames River. It's the largest town in the Cotswold District and home to the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world, the Royal Agricultural University that was founded in 1840. Cirencester is a tourist town with plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops and entertainment to keep the tourist hordes happy and smiling. Now that coworking venues have opened up in its streets, the tourists plus the locals can get a bit of work done in between taking time out for an espresso or 2.

The town was first referenced in 150AD, so it does have plenty of history within its boundaries. There is the Corinium Museum with an extensive Roman collection for those who like to poke their noses into history. Its Church of St John Baptist is known for its perpendicular Gothic porch and merchants' tombs (1895) and there is also a Roman Catholic Church of St Peters where you can say a little prayer for your startup to succeed. The oldest Baptist church in England can also be found in the town and makes another good choice for receiving a bit of heavenly help. There is the first landscaped garden in England in the town that was created by the first Earl Bathurst sometime after 1714, plus there is a Roman amphitheatre to check out.

Cirencester is no tech hub per se, but the startup scene in the United Kingdom is said to be one of the fastest growing in the whole of Europe according to figures over the last 5 years when there has been 392,627 new tech startups launched in the country. The most growth showed up in the niche sectors of Internet, fintech and software. The UK has an attractive environment for tech businesses in that it offers great foundations and ecosystems for innovative minds to get their ideas off the ground. Coworking is but one more step in supporting intrepid brains where it's possible to connect and collaborate with likeminded souls.
