About Chester

A walled city in Cheshire, Chester is perched on the River Dee very close to the border with Wales. It has a population of around the 118,200 mark, so you may have to hang out in quite a few pubs to get to know all of the locals. Granted city status in 1541, the city has quite a long history considering it was founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st Century AD. Known for its extensive Roman walls created from local red sandstone, its old city hides a shopping district that has 2-level covered arcades of Tudor style half-timber buildings. The land has been run over by the Romans, the Saxons and the Danes and it was the last city in England to fall to the Normans. Medieval buildings as well as Victorian architecture dot its streets that are surrounded by city walls. These ancient walls cover almost 3 km with a footpath running along the top and bridges crossing roadways. Its "Eastgate Clock" is said to be the most photographed clock in England, after Big Ben, of course. Today coworking venues have opened their doors in a town that will keep budding historians fascinated for hours on end.

Chester has a dynamic and youthful vibe due to the fact that it's home to the University of Chester. There is also a campus of The University of Law and the West Cheshire College with over 20,000 students running amok within the city. The startup scene in the United Kingdom is said to be one of the fastest growing in the whole of Europe according to figures over the last 5 years when there has been 392,627 new tech startups launched in the country. The most growth showed up in the niche sectors of Internet, fintech and software. The UK has an attractive environment for tech businesses in that it offers great foundations and ecosystems for innovative minds to get their ideas off the ground.

Coworking is but one more step in supporting intrepid brains where it's possible to connect and collaborate with likeminded souls. Chester gives you the chance to down a few drinks after work in one of the many bars and nightclubs hiding in medieval buildings.
