About Banbury

An historic market town, Banbury is perched on the Cherwell River in Oxfordshire about 103km from London and 60km from Birmingham with a population of 46,853 residents squatting in cafes sipping espresso, meandering its shops and hanging out in coworking venues. A commercial and retail hub for the surrounding area of north Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire that are predominantly rural, it was once a Christian pilgrimage town. Mentioned in the English nursery rhyme "Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross", it's believed that this ditty refers to one of the crosses destroyed by Puritans in 1600. Today it's home to a large bronze statue of a "Fine Lady upon a White Horse" only steps from the present Banbury Cross that was unveiled by Princess Anne in 2005. This is the town where you can grab one of its famous Banbury cakes (think spicy, currant-filled flat pastry cake) that have been made to secret recipes since 1586 on the way to your coworking venue to get some work done.

The town's main industries are electrical goods, food processing, printing and car components, plus it has the world's largest coffee-processing facility that was built in 1964. Banbury has a wealth of educational institutions within its midst, such as the Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, plus one of the international campuses of Fairleigh Dickinson University and numerous other hallowed halls of learning spewing out tech savvy souls.

The startup scene in the United Kingdom is said to be one of the fastest growing in the whole of Europe according to figures over the last 5 years when there has been 392,627 new tech startups launched in the country. The most growth showed up in the niche sectors of Internet, fintech and software. The UK has an attractive environment for tech businesses in that it offers great foundations and ecosystems for innovative minds to get their ideas off the ground. Coworking is but one more step in supporting intrepid brains where it's possible to connect and collaborate with likeminded souls.
