It is a gorgeous medieval old town spreading out beneath the Château de Neuchâtel, a 12th Century castle. The city has about 34,000 inhabitants and is often referred to by its German name, Neuenburg. In its early days it was the stomping grounds of the Roman Empire and later the Prussians. The old town is where you can hang out slurping espresso and people watching, whilst the arty crowd can head to the Museum of Art and History.
